1971 90’ x 32’ x 10’ Heavy Lift Barge

Brief History

Designed and built by Breton Industrial in Point Tupper for Gulf Oil in 1971.

Purchased by present owner in 1981 - Lifting equipment added on 1984.

Last certified and used for 100 metric ton lift in June 2005

 

Specifications

90 Feet in length X 32 feet wide X 10 feet deep

Bottom is 1/4 inch plate steel and sides are 3/16 inch plate steel

Open deck space is 58 feet X 28 feet; Bow to deck house is 50 feet

Deck capacity is 300 tons - Barge weight is 113 tons

4 ballast tanks (2 fore and 2 aft) 45 tons each / 180 tons capacity

13 cargo tanks (with heating coils) ranging from 6000 to 12000 gallons in capacity

Common alley below deck that runs the length of the barge

 

Lifting equipment

Cross piece on A-Frame is 13 inch diameter solid bar

Legs on A-Frame are 18 inch diameter, ¾ inch wall, 56 feet long each.

Other Equipment

2 Spuds – 58 feet long allow barge to anchor in 45 feet of water or less

8000 Watt Generator (roughly 8 years old) works fine

Main engine is original 125 horse power Isuzu – works fine

Current wire is 3 years old, galvanized and 1000 feet in length.

Have a spare 1000 feet of brand new / not used galvanized wire on a spool 

Various rigging gear, shackles, blocks, anchors and a new spare hydraulic pump

Have all original drawings and capacity plans.

 

Barge needs repairs / work to 4 of the ballast tanks – estimate 25K to repair locally.

Barge will require a minimum of 4 to 5 crew to operate as a lifting / salvage barge

 and only 2 crew to operate as a Flat top or spud barge, as well it requires a certified

 tug boat with a minimum of 600 horse power to tow it at a minimum of 6.5 knots.  

 

Current wharfage is $ 300.00 per month.

Local tugs are available in the area for $ 125.00 per hour to tow the barge.

Estimated insurance cost is $ 6,000.00 per year for a $ 250,000 policy.

After a refit the barge has the potential to be rented out for the following rates;

Hoisting / lifting - $ 300.00 per hour, Flat top barge work - $ 12,000.00 per month

Spud barge work – $ 20,000 per month.
